Computer networks are made with lots of Hardware and software firmware. Already we have learned about some basic hardware and terminologies. In this article, we will discuss the main and compulsory kit, hardware and firmware used in computer networking in short.
We will learn every terms, hardware, firmware, function, and functionality used by computer networking in details in the later chapter of this course.
We have already learned, connecting multiple computers together via any networking medium makes an interactive computer network. To get the entire job done many networking components like cables, router, switch, and some firmware such as protocol etc are needed. Let’s know them,
We have already learned about LAN(Local area network), MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) and WAN (Wide Area Network) in the previous chapter. Different type of area networks depends on the geographical area they cover.
For example, LAN covers a small area for serving high-speed data transmission with low noise gain. MAN covers a larger area than LAN. It may cover a city with low transfer speed with high noise gain. And WAN covers worldwide. Each type has its own advantage and disadvantage. But ultimately all the networks type helping us to build a better world.
The Internet is a kind of WAN network. It is mainly connected via optical fiber worldwide for communication within the world. Initially, it is a WAN network. But when you connect the network to your computer via Ethernet cable or your routers It also represents LAN.
It is mainly a type of Local Area Network that covers a small area. It this case one can only share files and data within the area while they are not connected to WAN. This type of networks used in large office, school and organization to manipulate their personal data and files.
World Wide Web (WWW)
It is a web technology to represents the files and internet data online using a web browser.
It is actually sets of rules developed using programming code to link the computer network connected device together. There are numbers of protocol work together to establish an end to end connection,
- IP (Internet Protocol)
- FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
- SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol)
- HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol)
All the protocol works together in the same manner. And the sets of manner specified by a model, The OSI (Open Systems Interconnect) and TCP/IP model is used as a reference for manufacturing the devices and firmware by a different manufacturer. We will learn more about the reference model in the later chapters.
A host is a special type of computer that is specially designed for providing data and file for the clients or user. For example, a website is hosted on a host computer for giving access to the connected computers under the network area that the host covers.
