SLN File Extension/File Type

Files that end with .sln file extension refers to the solution file for Microsoft Visual Basic project. This file is located in the project root folder where the source code is located. It is actually a text-based shared configuration file for organizing the project working state for a VSPackage. Every existing VSProject contains an SLN file in the root source code directory. In general, it is automatically saved as ProjectName.sln as the project name.

Although SLN files are text-based file but also it contains structured text data. The entire files are created with preSolution, project, and postSolution processing data by defining three tags called Project, Global, and GlobalSection. Each tag end with gradually EndGlobal and EndGlobalSection. Under the three tags, other data being processed such as project name, project id, etc.
